In mid-November, the Haverhill Farms subdivision made productive use of the City of Novi’s Neighborhood Woody Invasive Species Program to remove invasive buckthorn, honeysuckle and multiflora rose from a large area of their natural woodlands. A crew of neighbors banded together to cut down large and small plants that were shading and crowding out natural oaks, hickories and other native species. The City paid for the cut material to be chipped up and hauled away. See the before and after photos. If your subdivision is interested in improving your natural woodlands, please contact the city’s Landscape Architect, Rick Meader, at rmeader@cityofnovi.org or 248-735-5621 to learn more about how you and your neighbors can participate in the program and improve the habitat in your subdivision’s open space.
